19 Kenya Part II mostly just pix and BOOKLIST
Well I thought I would take advantage of the wireless and upload the last batch of photos. Anyhow this day we scanned and faxed our dental stuff to the insurance company even though we suspect they will find some way not to reimburse us. We were lucky enough to go to a very nice Shabbat service at the only synagogue in Nairobi. It is quite massive and I suspect it was fairly costly to build. A very nice structure. We nearly didnt even get to go due to the high security they had there. We had to bring our passports a day in advance and have them screened by a security team. Anyhow we ended up making it thru and may even go to morning services even though it is already quite late and I am not sure that we will make it. Also our plane to Ethiopia leaves at 2am! Ugh.. at least we save on a hotel!
And without further ado, a list of books I have read this summer, easily the most since grammar school: -crossing the line by laura ling on how they illegally crossed into North Korea and had to be rescued by Bill Clinton -the double
by doestoyevsky, a sad tale of hopelessness typical of him -the puritan dilemna, an interesting story of john winthrop on how he battled with being part of the world while still maintaining his own level of purity -the love girl and the innocent by solzhenitsyn, a play -20000 leagues under the sea by vernes, an incredible tale written 150 years ago that predicted scuba diving and a path thru the suez canal.. really ahead of its time -the time machine by hg wells, another 100 year old book that still has relavance today; on humans perfecting the world and the surprising result that came from that -digital fortress and deception point both by dan brown, both good if you like dan brown -1000 splendid suns by hosseini (author of the kite runner), a tragic tale of historical value and informative on afghan society from 1975-2005 -hostages by futura, a collection of hostage stories, an simple read -sum, 40 tales from the afterlife by eagleman, presented some interesting thoughts on what happens after we die -killer angels on the battle of gettysburg, an informative narrative of this turning battle
