Hotel to Avoid In Accra Oasis Lodge
Please think twice before staying at the Oasis Lodge in Accra. Without a doubt, if you are going to stay there, do not reserve in advance – your reservation may not be honored. I reserved a 3 bedroom apartment 6 weeks in advance and visited twice to be sure that the reservation was in tact. I had a document from Oasis stating that I had a reservation for March 27th. My in-laws were coming into town with my fiance for our wedding. I’ve lived in Ghana many years, so I knew the deal. I went early on the day my group was to arrive to check that everything was ready for them to check in, but I was told that there was no reservation and no room available. After about an hour of arguing, I was given a 2 bedroom apartment (which was only $50 cheaper than the $270-a-night 3 bedroom), and was forced to pay $150 for another hotel room down the road. The next day my group was put into the correct room. My group stayed 9 nights at Oasis (because of limited options in Accra meeting our budget and space requirements) but the owner would not shave off the $100 we overpaid due to their mistake. This is something we asked for on the first night. In addition, they created a large scene when my group decided to pay the complete bill minus the $100, with security officers physically holding a 60-year old couple from leaving the premises.
This is all after my fiance suffered a fall due to the cleaners poor work on the floors. It was a horrible experience. Although the facility is lovely, the ladies at the desk were rude; the manager was never available unless you begged or argued with someone to call her; even then, she was inflexible and not accomodating, only offering empty apologies and threatening to kick us out, even though we were paying clients with valid arguments.
I have lived in Ghana for 5 years, and believe me, I have never experience such extreme rudeness and inhospitable behavior. This experience at Oasis Lodge in Accra, goes above and beyond the stereotype of poor customer service in Ghana. I will never be able to get that $100 back, but I will warn as many people as I can that if they select to stay at Oasis Lodge, they stay at their own risk. All of your problems there will be dealt with through a easy ‘I’m sorry’.
