Shaoxing Road & Taikang Road
While there are plenty of shops and cafes to let you while your afternoon away (see next page), make sure you stop at Nest on the 2nd floor in the International Artists Factory. A collective of designers who use responsible manufacturing in their beautiful creations, Nest offers shoppers with a conscience a place to feel good about spending their money.
Full of accessories and furnishings for the home, Nest is a large warehouse space in which you can browse. Each designer’s things are grouped together with a short profile about the designer and the thoughts behind their creations. Talk to expert staff about the products and inquire about events. Nest hosts gatherings in the evenings and if you’re in town, you might be interested in stopping in for a glass of wine and a bit of education on the green movement in China.
The International Artists Factory is on the right-hand side of alley #210 after you enter it from Taikang Road. At the moment, there’s a cafe on the first floor but head straight through and up the stairs. There are a number of unique design shops in the building. Nest is on the second floor.
