Cradle Mountain: Getting There
Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park is accessible through Tasmania’s network of roads from major towns and cities on the island.
If coming from outside Tasmania, you could take the ferry from Melbourne, sail in your own boat to Tasmania, or fly.
By air: You can fly to Hobart or Launceston from most say capitals in mainland Australia. From Victoria, flights are available to other Tasmanian destinations. Check with your local airline.
There are flights to Hobart from Queenstown in New Zealand.
By sea, the Spirit of Tasmania plies between Melbourne in Victoria to Devonport in Tasmania. The Spirit of Tasmania III had linked Sydney and Devonport by sea from mid-January 2004, but this service was later discontinued.
By land, you can travel to the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park by bus from Launceston, Devonport, Queenstown (not the New Zealand city but the Tasmania town), Strahan, and Hobart.
If driving by automobile from Launceston:

Distances and travel times are approximate. Total distance is approximately 242km (151mi). Estimated travel time is three hours 50 minutes.
Check with your map for routes from other points of departure.
Other information
Accommodation: There are camping grounds in the Cradle Valley and Cynthia Bay regions. The luxurious Cradle Mountain Lodge is on the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park boundary in Cradle Valley region. Check at the visitors centres for other types of available accommodation.
Huts along the Overland Track can provide overnight accommodation but they could quickly fill up in the summer months.
Sightseeing: Take a Cradle Mountain scenic flight or cruise Lake St Clair on a ferry. Walk the Overland Track. There are a number of day walks in both Cradle Valley and Cynthia Bay regions.
Fishing: You can hire dinghies at the Cynthia Bay kiosk for a spot of fishing or relaxation on Lake St Clair.
Weather: Cold, wet weather is the rule in the Cradle Valley area where out of 10 days it rains an average seven days, is cloudy eight days, and the sun shines all day on only one day. It snows 54 days each year.
