Sydney Festival 2011

The Sydney Festival 2011 will be held from January 8 to 30 by offering extraordinary works and performances of theater, music, dance and art, along with outdoor performances, which are mostly free.

First Night

The 2011 Sydney Festival First Night is held on the streets of Sydney and parks and includes free music and dance concerts, circus shows, musical comedy, film and multi-media sites in various cities including Chifley Square, Hyde Park, the domain and Martin Place.

Theatre

Theatre offerings include A Life in Three Acts and Bigger than Jesus at Wharf 1 Theatre, Smoke and Mirrors at The Famous Spiegeltent, The Red Shoes at Seymour Centre’s York Theatre, and Minto Live performed in the streets of the southwestern suburb of Minto.

Dance

Dance performances include Entity and My Bicycle Loves You at Sydney Theatre, and Food Chain at Riverside Theatres in the western suburb Parramatta and Seymour Centre in inner-west Sydney.

Music

A variety of music events takes place at Carriageworks, City Recital Hall, Enmore Theatre, The Famous Spiegeltent, Hyde Park Barracks, State Theatre, Sydney Opera House, the University of Sydney, and a number of Parramatta and Sutherland venues.

Art

Art exhibitions are at Artspace, Campbelltown Arts Centre, 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art, Lower Sydney Town Hall, and the University of Sydney's Nicholson Museum. And yes, you can put your name in lights on the front of the Australian Museum.

Free Events

In addition to the Sydney Festival First Night, free events include Summer Sounds in the Domain of the year with Los Lobos and Shakespeare's Midsummer at Symphony in the domain, Inside Out Festival events in the western suburbs of Parramatta and Penrith, and the traditional Ferrython in Sydney Harbour Australia Day, January 26.
