The Three Sisters

From Leura, take the Cliff Drive to Katoomba’s Echo Point and see why the Three Sisters in the Blue Mountains are such an Australian attraction.

You can view the Three Sisters from the edges of the cliff or you can cross over to the big rock formation and climb up its sides through defined walkways and on giant stairs.

Later, you can take the short drive to Scenic World where you can take the Scenic Skyway 270 metres above the valley or Scenic Railway all the way down to the floor of the valley andexplore the Australian bush.

On the valley floor, there’s a six-hour walk you can take which brings you to another interesting rock formation, the Ruined Castle.

Don’t get lost

Here, as elsewhere on the mountains, keep to the track, let people know where you’reheaded, keep your bearings, and don’t get lost.

You’d be surprised how simple it is tolose your way in the bush. There have been deaths as a result of hypothermia, starvation, injuries or other causes.

From Katoomba, you can proceed to the Jamison or Grose valleys to explore more of the bush.

But it should really be a day of fun and relaxation, and do take your time inthe high blue yonder.

If you wanted to go farther afield, there are the Jenolan Caves — with their awesome stalactite and stalagmite formations — to visit. While the caves lie southwest of Katoomba, you would first have to go north on the Great Western Highway before turning into Jenolan Rd in a general southwesterly direction.

Coming back to Sydney, try the scenic Bells Line of Road which starts near the town of Bell.
