“My friend was driving alone at night not far from here,” said the taxi driver as we drove back to our hotel in the outskirts of Livingstone. “He was going too quickly and did not know there was an elephant ahead. By the time he realised, it was too late and he crashed into it.” Angela and I made suitable sounds of awe and wonder at the thought of such a thing happening and so the driver continued. “An injured elephant is the worst kind of elephant and this one was no different. The crash had injured its leg, but not too badly, but it did make the elephant mad. Before my friend could escape, it was above his car, smashing the roof down with its thick legs. Crash, crash, crash like a potato masher. My friend had just enough room to keep low and somehow managed to get out. The elephant disappeared into the forest leaving his car totally destroyed.”

Driving north through ever changing scenery: from dramatically rising mountainscape through lush rolling countryside with orchards and vineyards; and finally the desert – endless stretches of red earth streaked with luminous yellow grass, bordered by the ethereal purple bluish hue of distant mountains. I am racing against the clock because I know they are closing around three and this is the only day I have up here. At one o’clock still nothing. I stop at a little tourist information place in a one-horse-town; there they direct me off the main road. Another 50km or so. It’s a dirt track, dusty and slow. And then, just as I’m starting to wonder why I’m doing this, I see it, one of the great spectacles of nature: flowers, carpets of them, covering the desert floor, flooding it with an array of colours – the desert in bloom.

From the red sea to the dead sea, I think I left off just before our trip to Madaba in Jordan.

Madaba was pretty good, we went and saw a church, and some others went to Jerash, but I think we all agree that it is a necessary part of Jordan trip. When we left we went to Amman Madaba, through the Dead Sea. You will be amazed by the amount of vegetation is on the way to the Dead Sea, but there you go! We were told that if we had any doubt we feel a short time arrived at the sea (which is crazy salty). Fortunately I was not one of the few who had shaved legs haha tomorrow, but trust me, there were a lot of bites on my end too! The pool was also crazy, than trying to get a good rhythm, but the thrust sent him flying on his back.

One option in the Dead Sea was to have a mud bath with minerals and salts from the Dead Sea covered from top to bottom / foot in the mud. Check out the photos, a black Sarah-anything is possible! Hehe also

The first night I was here I came straight to my host family is a family home so beautiful! Mom, Dad and the kids 4. all speak English majors (except the baby …), but I'm trying to

Yesterday and today were inductions into the city and the shelter I'll be working. Addis is a beautiful city! As a cross between Kampala / Nairobi and Kigali. Aaaannnddd, there is a Sheraton hotel, where he plans to spend most of my weekends lying by the pool:-P

For a very long time Zambia was neglected by the tourism industry of Africa and especially the safari lovers. But this seems strange as Zambia has Africa’s some of the most gorgeous landscape and is home to the most exotic of the continent’s wildlife. The reason was the lack of tourist infrastructure, and that was true there were not that many world class hotels outside the capital Lusaka and the national parks of the country were mismanaged and were in a poor shape. But all this has changed now as the Zambian government has put some huge efforts in improving the tourism infrastructure of the country to attract the tourist traffic to Zambia and they have been quite successful in it. The biggest attraction of Zambia for the tourists was its wildlife and the best park to view that was the Lower Zambezi National Park along the gorgeous Zambezi River.

The park covers an area of 4092 square miles north along the west bank of the Zambezi, and is one of the highest concentrations of wildlife in Africa. When the ill-park tourism infrastructure in the lower Zambezi has improved a lot, and many resorts opened in the area that serves all kinds of tourist needs. If you are arriving from abroad then you can take cheap flights to Lusaka, where you can rent a car to take a three-hour drive of the park. You can visit the park one day, but most tourists prefer staying in the park a couple of nights to enjoy its natural beauty and exotic wildlife is fully charged. Most resorts are located around the entrance to the park and you can easily find your taste and budget.

The main attraction is its elephants in the park, where you will find thousands of grazing meadows park, or by taking a bath flow of the Zambezi. The park is believed to the highest concentration of elephants per sq mile in the world. The best way to explore the park, making it the company of a park ranger who knows where to take you so that you get the best view of animals as well as protect you in unforeseen danger arises.

Most animals can be found near the river, reducing their thirst, or swim in the water refreshes them. Another highlight of the Park has hundreds of Hippos that can be found in the river. And then, of course, a scene which the park has gained a reputation, thousands of elephants swimming in the Zambezi River in the afternoon. So the tour in the Lower Zambezi National Park will surely give you a unique opportunity to view the game, it is difficult to find any other national park in Africa.

We left J-Bay around 10:30 and headed back the way we came for three hours Natures Valley. Almost every local we met has recommended that we stay in a place called Wild Spirit Backpackers. Origionally a travelers lodge built in 1983, Wild Spirit was fortunate enough to be on land reclaimed as a national park, so indigeonous trees and animals have thrived here. We stayed in a cottage with a beautiful view over the valley, and everywhere we looked was a new trail leaving the building. We have a couple of walks in the area and we also went to the lagoon, where the ocean meets a slow moving river jungle. The backpackers free canoes, so we paddled in and around the jungle environment for a few hours before going to the backpackers and the sun went down. We hungout with other travelers from around the world and drank wine by the fire, talking about life, while the stars glittered incredibly bright in the sky.

Wild Spirit when we left, we gave one of their volunteers, Liz from California, a ride because she was

the gravel roads and will not need the extra money to spend. He showed us the best places for the big five (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino) on the map in the lobby. He told us we would be very happy to see lion, buffalo are difficult to see, no one sees the elusive leopard or caracol (lynx like cat), but there were lots of elephants, kudu, antelope, warthogs, etc. . We were so excited to talk with John that I could not sleep all night I was thinking about seeing lions and elephants.

For example, an article of clothing was left at a riad on the first night, and today it was returned to us. I almost fainted. Moroccian’s are honest, trusting and caring people, although they will rip you off under your own will – generally by paying too much, but that was your decision. If you get them down to a bottom price, they turn a little sour, but no hard feelings are harboured – so it seems.

If I were to redo Morocco, Fez in March I would have, Bypass Cassa Blanca and Marrakech. I was hoping for something more in Marrakech, but prior to travel may not work properly senses. Marrakech has been able to have a different feeling for me was I landed here first. Marrakech is a tourist town and a lot of Moroccian culture is here. Fez – The Imperial City was my favorite and I would have liked to spend more time there.

As it is, I'm on my way home today and I feel like I've seen a lot of Morocco.

Last full day in Marrakech. Today was a walking tour through Marrakech Medina. Got up fairly early to explore the outskirts of the Medina. The areas are split up – Jewish area, leather area, lamps, Berber, Moroccian. It’s typically the same stuff for sale.
