About This Trip

This trip was born alongside the arrival of our second child, Alice (aka Princess Possy-Poss), in May 2010. Our thoughts initially were to have an extended trip from Melbourne to Cape York in our campervan while the maternity leave lasts. Always in the back of our mind was a longing to travel to Europe – to visit with our brother and his family, and to finally visit some of the places that we had only ever heard and dreamed of. ...

The Life Times of a Student in Porvoo Finland

Hello to all, Welcome to my first blog, the first of many i hope. I am a student, studying Tourism, and this year i have been sent to Porvoo, Finland, too continue my studies. I have been living in Porvoo for 3 weeks now and i have to say, my first impressions…… They could not be better. Porvoo is a small town with a population of over just 50,000, and it is approximately 50km to the east of Helsinki. I ...

First few days in Norway

Part of me cannot believe I am actually here and another part of me just feels like this is totally normal…I do not feel like I’m in another country. Staying in a home…with my family, though we have only just met, makes me feel so at ease. I cannot describe it, but all I can state is it doesn’t feel strange or foreign. Sept. 4 I had a very easy flight from Switzerland, stopped in Amsterdam and arrived in ...

Sept 6 the "real world"

Dear followers – sorry for not updating you in a while. I am unable to blog at work, and my world wide web is currently down at home. So, I’ve been busy touring the city and having a good time instead of being online. That being said, I have a lot to state and not much time to state it (before my battery dies). I suppose I will start with work. I started my first day last Wednesday (Sept ...

More from Paris

Here we are, our last day in Paris, kinda over jet lag… We’ve done lots of walking and lots of stairs, we have seen beautiful views from Sacre Coure and Notre Dame, the pics do not do justice. Some of our favorites so far: picnicking under the Eiffel Tower and watching rollerbladers do tricks to a brass band playing Disney favorites. Something we forgot about is how stinky Paris is, Scott states “The land of oui oui smells like the ...

Stackpole South Wales Travelbugs get together

After leaving the USA we had a whistle-stop tour around the UK visiting all the family. It completed with a trip to West Wales where we met up with our friends from the South Wales Travelbugs. Our long weekend was curtailed somewhat by us getting a contract with the British Council in Tunis meaning we had to leave on the Sunday morning! On Friday afternoon we arrived at the National Trust Centre at Stackpole, Pembrokeshire. The sun was shining and ...

Map: Mapping Out Bruce Springsteen’s Asbury Park

On Sunday Jimmy Fallon opened the 2010 Emmy’s with a “Glee”-inspired take on Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run.” And the night before indie rockers Vampire Weekend covered Springsteen’s “I’m Goin’ Down” at a concert in Vancouver. The attention from entertainers usually geared toward the younger set was impressive for the 60-year-old Springsteen–whose breakthrough album, Born to Run, turned 35 last week.

Sweet Switzerland

Our overnight train from Amsterdam to Zurich was not quite the perfect -wake-up-in-another-country-feeling-fresh experience we had been hoping for – the cabin beds were really hard. Also, some flea/mosquito/other biting insect managed to devour half of my face, hands and feet in the night so I showed up in Zurich looking like I’d been in a fight. We quickly discovered the expense of the Swiss Franc and largely lived off bircher muesli, bread, summer fruits and chocolate! I possibly visited ...
