Sleeping controller called the night shifts, "crazy"
By Rebecca Ruiz, editor of msnbc.com, An air traffic controller at Reagan National Airport near Washington, DC, who admitted that he fell asleep while working the midnight shift – leaving two commercial aircraft to land on their own – has been suspended. NBC Tom Costello reports. The incident led to the temporary suspension of the driver as well as new FAA procedures that require regional radar facilities to alert a driver that works only on a plane.
