Think of zombies milling around Wall Street is a strange, one-time anomaly?

Think again: On Day Zombie World, Saturday, legions of zombies will moan, March and munch on brains in cities across the country.

The event was founded in 2008 by Mark Menold, who knows his way around the creepy side of life, as Professor Emcee Square, the host (and producer) of "The It's Alive! Show," a horror-the TV WGBN program in Pittsburgh.

"Anyone can be a zombie," said Menold. "The costume is easy; You can hang out with live or dead and you really have nothing to lose. You're already dead. "

Or undead, depending on your definition of zombiedom. Either way, zombies are coordinated with the people because they reflect current concerns about the harmful effects and compliance, says Jacob McMurray, senior curator at NTUA Seattle museum, which opened a new exhibit called "Can not Look Away:. The lure of the horror movie "

"We control the world, but we have SARS, AIDS and other resistant strains," said msnbc.com. "Zombies also represent the masses rising -. Everyday people decide that they're going to get another "

Then again, maybe zombies simply provide an excuse to slather on the gray greasepaint and fake blood, guts displays and other internal parts of the body and lurch around moaning, "Braaains!"

Pittsburgh Zombie Fest: First place in the nearby town of Monroeville, Pa, where George Romero filmed the zombie classic, "Dawn of the Dead", this year's event will be held in Market Square in Pittsburgh on October 8.

Among the festivities: a brain-drinking contest, Zombie Olympics – think cut-foot javelin toss – and an attempt to reclaim the Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of zombies. It's free, though the zombies are invited to bring a nonperishable food for the larger Pittsburgh Food Bank.

Zombicon: Now in its fifth year, this October 15 event in Fort Myers, Fla., will include the usual offers zombie – a walking zombie, live music and a more concentrated effort, a world record – but wait, there's more:

This year, the moldering masses can witness first marriage festival zombies participate in acting classes and zombie make-up and donate to the local Blood Center Lee Memorial. (Hey, zombies can not have a pulse, but have a heart.)

New Walk Zombie Jersey: Currently the holder of the Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of zombies – the 4093 zombie walk during the last year – this event in Asbury Park will be held October 21 to 23

The walk itself (22 Oct.) is free, but it has renewed a three-day festival Undead in Asbury Park Convention Hall (tickets: $ 10 – $ 20), which includes pocket-peek screenings of new movies zombies and special appearances with actors from the film that started the zombie craze, "Night of the Living Dead."

Zombies with speed and intelligence – now this is scary. The only thing we can do is hope that it will be too busy to care for our minds.

Andrew Pickens Ranger District officials said the problems began with the failure of a pit toilet on the site. They said that as a result, people have destroyed the bathroom.

District Ranger Mike Crane said: "As much as I hate camping too close, visitor safety is our priority. Since the toilet does not work, people who use the bathroom and leave human waste within and outside the building the toilet and the whole camp houses. It's just not sanitary for campers and we believe that some resource damages are caused. "

USDA Forest Service has temporarily closed overnight camping. Access to the site has stopped using large boulders to block access to vehicles. Day use is still permitted, but vehicles must be parked at the end of the Forest Service road.

A release said that the Forest Service will consider whether to continue an overnight camping Hellhole.

Information from WYFF-TV in Greenville, SC, was included in this report.

The attraction of the owner, Duke Mullner, said he spoke with employees and got a different story.

"I went to the actor, I went to the people who were there, two other actors, tech … my internship and my manager to ask," Mullner said. "Almost none of that came down. There was not a lick."

The owner says that the attraction is for a 17-and-older crowd, and guests are required to have a waiver, which identifies what is inside rather than sign.

The parents of teens say they contacted the police about the incident, but were told there was nothing they could do, because there was no way to prove a crime was committed.

Do not miss these Travel stories

America's most beautiful neighborhoods

Eye-catching design and green spaces matter, but the most appealing neighborhoods are thus enriched by a welcoming community spirit.

Katrina-battered hotel finally ready to reopen four airports to try risk-based security screening Holland America cruise plan vampire-themed contest rewards random acts of kindness travel

The "PreCheck" program represents a major test of President Barack Obama's government away from a one-size-fits-all approach to security and a model that tailors people control what the government knows it. It is, after a public backlash and protest campaign last year sometimes invasive pat-downs for travelers who put in full-body scanners rejected step.

The new program calls for a fundamental trade-off. Passengers, airlines and other government agencies, their personal data with the U.S. Transportation Security Administration to share, so they can be pre-screened before arriving at the airport. In return, passengers get a chance – no guarantee – that it has faster lines and avoid removing their shoes, belts and light coats and laptops while keeping liquids in their carry-ons.

If successful, the pilot project could also spread to a small splinter of passengers and airports in Atlanta, Miami, Detroit and Dallas-Fort Worth.

Story: Unruly passenger arrested on Detroit-bound plane

The system of Atlanta in the opening run earns positive reviews from several of the passengers who use it, but also demonstrated that they are not immune against all traditional security methods. They came to the same security checks as other passengers, but were ushered to a specialized online. Rodney Berry of Atlanta, praised the new system, although his bag was searched by hand at the end.

"It seems like it was faster, though I've stopped," said the 42-year-old who normally flies at least once per week.

"This program allows us to individuals we know a lot of focus on. And it allows us to accelerate these processes apply to those people," he said during a news conference at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. "At the same time, it frees up resources for us as individuals, we know less about valid and possibly an increased risk for aviation."

The voluntary test program includes some travelers enrolled in Delta Air Lines and American Airlines frequent-flier programs and three state-run programs travelers – called Global Entry, NEXUS and Sentri – at the four airports. Participants in the existing government programs through background checks and be interviewed by customs officers, to the cards they get to pass more quickly through customs.

The new PreCheck program is very small. TSA officials estimate that somewhere between 5000-8000 travelers could finally led daily by security experts at the lines. That's less than 1 percent of the average number of passengers screened daily at domestic airports. Nobody in the program ensures a fast screening, and the TSA says they still subject to random and unpredictable security steps.
