Cape Cod hotel room rate to temperature relationships

The newly renovated hotel in Cape Cod with a creative inclination gives terse new meaning to the term "room temperature".

Through November 6, the Harbor Hotel Provincetown, Massachusetts will use weather instruments to determine the price of 119 standard rooms, usually $ 89.99 per night.

"The rate is based on the temperature of 14:00 on the day of arrival," says general manager of the hotel Nicholas Mitchell.

By theSaturday high in the region is expected to be 67 degrees, this means that guests can expect daily already saving about $ 23.

Butas who thrill in gambling understand seemingly simple statement by Mitchell is filled with obvious gaps.

Is that Fahrenheit or Celsius? That there is 14:00 on Cape Cod or on the slopes of the Himalayas?

Nice try, says Mitchell. Like casinos, the house sets the rules: The temperature will be determined by the local branch of the venerable National Weather Service.

It is one of the most unusual ways of resorts and hotels trying to attract customers in the rooms, now that Labor Day has come and gone. The stakes are higher in Provincetown and throughout the Northeast, where Hurricane Irene empty resorts, such as visitors canceled reservations peak season by millions.

That is one reason Mitchell was willing to continue the imaginative promotion dreamed up last year by his predecessor.

This is the only thing that may be familiar to visitors to the hotel for the past 17 years was the landmark Cape Inn. Mitchell says new owners carefully multi-million dollar renovation inside before a gala reopening last spring.

"The heart of the promotion is to remind that the Cape does not close after Labor Day," he said. "In fact, we still have shops, whale watching and great restaurants and the whole year. The only thing missing is the crowds.

And they worry that changes in temperature freak.

"If we get a cold snap and sell hotel rooms go for $ 42, to understand we will recover the loss with people who sit around the fireplace enjoying a hot afternoon toddies», he said.

The hotel takes credit for creativity, but placein the wacky Hall of Fame Agreement for more exotic offerings ever. For example:
