London or Bust
Morning comes early when you get to sleep after midnight. I woke up at 5:30 a.m. and just stayed up. Got my act together and found a way to hook up all my suitcases so I could manage by myself!
Met my new friend Cynthia in the lobby and we took the 7:00 a.m. shuttle back to the airport. Had to recheck our bags, go through security and find our gate. That took about two hours.
First flight out to London … Cynthia gets called. She’s off, Business Class, and gave me the thumbs up hope that I make it too. Now I’m hovering around the gate desk … waiting, waiting … and then I hear those two tiny words … Terry Jackson. I take my ticket, look at it, and smile. I too have been given a Business Class seat!! That’s like getting ringside seats at any event. The plane did not have a First Class section, so Business Class is as good as it gets! Thanks Kim for allowing me to use one of your passes!! Getting into the airplane I give Cynthia a tiny wave and find my seat, which ended up being next to the seat saved for pilot rest periods. That was an experience … the first pilot did help me find the button to turn on my overhead light. I really try to make it appear that I have done this before, been in Business Class, a world traveler ya know, but that rarely happens.
The eight hour flight was actually quite relaxing. Flying Business Class helps! We arrived in London around midnight, and the wait to get through Customs was excruciating … perhaps the Pope in London had something to do with it.
When I cleared customs, there was Rich and Kim waiting for me. They were getting worried about what was happening. Bye to Cynthia, and we needed to figure out how to get back to the flat. The tube was closed. Taxi, much dinero. So we find out there is a night bus into London. Two pounds each instead of 65 pounds for a taxi. We’re on the bus!! The fact that we did not get to the flat until 2:40 a.m and had to get up and drive to Salisbury to be able to get to Stonehenge on Sunday at 6:15 a.m. was no huge deal! We had an adventure, and it’s always all about the adventure!
Off to bed for a few hours sleep.
