Reflections on Scotland after my first trip abroad

Thoughts on Scotland

Did I find Scotland I was looking for? Well, no. I expected to find Celtic pipes and fiddles play while long-haired men, barely trained and semi-savage and Kilted, sat and drank vodka and exchanging hard looks.

I did not find such things, but rather their remains, the ruins of ancient kingdoms. Fleeting glimpses of the past, there are ghosts and forgotten lives.

I found the countryside unspoilt and welcoming. I found a people warm and friendly. I found intrigue and mystery, and was bombarded by names and historical events that forged not only my family's past, but the story of a nation as well.

More than that, I found myself again. Explorer. Adventurer. Traveler. Historians. Artist. Author. Romantic. Dreamer. True believers.

I found this new band and a new place to miss, a place to leave a part of my heart.

But most interesting of all, I found that my home is really my home, and while I love being out and explore, I value my heart the most. I miss my comfort zone and familiarity. I miss my other life, and it is wonderful to discover that I have created a life worth missing.
