Mayor Michael Bloomberg helped launch four new thrill rides Wednesday. They are known collectively as the "Scream Zone."
The rides operate alongside the Luna Park rides that opened last year.
They are part of the regeneration of the city plan. The theme park by the Brooklyn promenade had fallen into disrepair over the years.
The city has contributed more than $ 6 million toward the cost of new attractions for Luna Park and Scream Zone.
The mayor predicts this summer will be the largest number of visitors to Coney Island to pull in more than half a century.
