No injuries when flight aborted at W.Va. airport

CHARLESTON, W.Va.An airport spokesman says a US Airways flight aborted takeoff at a West Virginia airport and came to rest in lightweight concrete material installed to prevent planes from going over the mountaintop runway.

Yeager Airport spokesman Brian Belcher says there were 30 passengers and three crew members on Tuesday’s Charlotte, N.C.-bound regional jet. No one was injured.

Belcher says it’s not immediately known why the flight was aborted at 4:22 p.m. A call to the Federal Aviation Administration’s Eastern Regional Office wasn’t immediately returned Tuesday night.

Belcher says no flights were being allowed to depart or arrive at the Charleston airport.

Belcher says the concrete material was installed at the end of the runway about a year ago and worked as designed.
