Powder on the plane turn out to be pot
The airport authorities were on high alert Monday after reports thata suspicious white powder was found on a flight from New York who had just arrived at Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport, NBC reports from Miami.
But all of a hazardous materials team found the plane was the remains of a bag of marijuana, authorities said.
Around 9 am, the crew of Spirit Airlines 705 called authorities to report that they had discovered a "suspicious object" on board, said Greg Meyer, spokesman for the airport.
The flight arrived from New York, and passengers were cleared from the airplane as a HAZMAT team investigated.
Instead of a hazardous material, officials found weeds, said Broward Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Veda Coleman-Wright.
Not surprisingly, none of the passengers claimed the marijuana, so no one was arrested, he said.
Spirit Airlines said all the passengers continued their connecting flights on schedule.
