U.S. eases travel warning about nuclear plant in Japan
The State Department on Friday advised U.S. citizens to stay more than 12 miles from Fukushima (foo-koo-mah-SHEE') Dai-ichi plant – in line with Japan's own forbidden zone.
The previous U.S. travel alert advised not go within 50 miles of the plant. The latest announcement Americans staying for more than one year within this wider area should consult local authorities on radiation levels.
Tens of thousands have been forced to evacuate after the earthquake. The nuclear crisis has caused the leakage of radiation worst since Chernobyl.
