Google Places stop using competitors' ratings
CHICAGO – Google has removed excerpts of comments from sites like TripAdvisor and Yelp to Google Places, his service in online competition to help consumers search for local businesses.
The move, announced in the Official Google Blog on Thursday, following the disclosure of an antitrust investigation of the United States last month.
The federal probe concerns whether Google, which dominates the U.S. and global markets for advertising on search engines, abusing their market power, favoring their own services over those of rivals in online research and through other practices.
The blog made no mention of the investigation.
"After careful reflection on the future direction of Place pages, and the feedback we have heard in recent months, fragments of the review sources are removed from the web pages Place," Avni Shah, Google director of product management, has said in the blog post.
Google said it has added a feature for Google users to write their reviews at the top of its web pages place.
He said that the rating search pages' and has review should include only reviews written by Google's users, although the company will continue to list links to other review sites.
Google offers local Places of assessments and reviews, Hotpot originally called, were introduced last fall.
