Hotels bring the workout in your room

Staying in shape during your trip can be difficult. Whether it's rich food, the family routine or standard business meetings can be difficult to put together the energy to trudge up to the hotel fitness center.

Increasingly, it is not necessary as more and more hotels offer rooms equipped with weights, treadmills, and even yogamats and elliptical machines.

"The increased popularity of in-room fitness has to do with the convenience and efficiency," said Chris Carmichael, CEO and head coach for Carmichael Training Systems. "People can get the job done without leaving their room, get it done quickly and get on with their day."

TODAY, Al Roker talks with Dr. Roshini Raj who offers his advice on issues that can make your healthy hotel room, including requiring a non-smoking room and bringing your own snacks.

This spring, for example, Hotel 71 in Chicago created five 600-square meter fitness suite as part of a $ 15 million renovation. Two features elliptical machines, three treadmills, and are all equipped with TV 42-inch on which guests can play DVD workout. The rooms will be available at a premium slightly higher than the average rate at night, which starts at $ 179. The suites will also be offered to members of the hotel's loyalty program as an upgrade.

"Our fitness center is available 24 hours a day, but some people find it embarrassing to go down there in the middle of the night," said general manager Steve Shern. "Others want the ability to work in their own private space."

Largest hotel companies are also increasingly with the program. Both Affinia Hotels and the Hilton Garden Inn offers complimentary fitness kits, which include yoga mats, blocks, stretching, exercise bands and weights. The latter also includes an 8 pound ball for abdominal workouts.

Other trademarks are forming partnerships with companies and athletic training to provide everything from exercise videos to workout clothes. At the Sheraton, guests can enjoy free video-on-demand routine "training in a bag" kit developed by the core athletic performance training company. At Westin, you can borrow free sneakers and workout clothes thanks to a partnership with New Balance.

Efforts recognize that the rigors of travel is present difficulties for routine health and their overall health. "Frequent travelers have come to realize that being fit makes travel easier," said Carmichael. "They do not want to put their lifestyle on hold when leaving town."

And, as Shern said, there is nothing like a piece of exercise equipment in the room to remind a traveler's own wish to maintain the healthy lifestyle: "I spoke to a visitor who told me that the car was staring at the Its all the time. He said it was a great source of motivation to actually get on it. "
