Lets face Groupon bus passengers stranded

Are you a fan of the "daily deals" that arrive in your inbox every morning Groupon discounts and other websites?

But buyer beware: Some Southern California residents who bought round-trip bus tickets and discount Voice over Groupon Daily Specials for travel to Las Vegas were stranded when buses do not show up, broke or were hours late, NBC San Diego reports .

The offer, available for trips in the summer and had been advertised through various news and shopping sites, many passengers left frustrated and disappointed.

Shermetria Maddox bought her for $ 55 deal on Groupon. "You can not beat," said Maddox.

I caught with Maddox outside Bally's Casino in Las Vegas. She sat with a pile of luggage waiting to be picked up from her trip home to Anaheim.

Her trip was organized by LUX Ground Transportation and promised a round-trip ticket on a "luxury bus" with free Wi-Fi, premium movies, snacks and an "unlimited drinks" option.

To Las Vegas from her home in Anaheim was quiet. The bus was one hour late, she could live. Going home was another story.

LUX bus never showed up. Two shuttle buses finally arrived at another company that was hired by Lux to the stranded passengers waiting to go home to California to rescue.

The passengers reached their drop-off locations in Los Angeles, San Diego and Anaheim after 1 hours – five hours late.

Mark Gray Elle and her friends bought 15 coupons for the same deal. It was characterized by Voice Daily Deals, which operates under the name Village Voice and is distributed to multiple outlets including the LA Weekly and OC Weekly.

"I thought I found a deal," Gray said. "Forty-five U.S. dollars round trip to Vegas."

But Gray had second thoughts about trusting the deal after reading bad reviews on Yelp. She canceled her trip.

On a recent morning, Alex Cassidy of Huntington Beach was waiting for his bus, which was scheduled to depart at 08:30 from Las Vegas to the Marriott Hotel near Los Angeles International Airport.

He had bought a discount ticket Voice Daily Deals.

"We waited and waited," he said.

Cassidy got a call at thirteen. The bus was canceled.

Cassidy went home, packed his car and drove to Las Vegas.

Eventually he got his money back.

Groupon says the LUX screened for offering the promotion, and the bus company met their "high quality."

A month later, "we found that the trader is not satisfactory service," said Julie Mossler of Groupon. Groupon canceled the deal and returned money from the passengers.

But how far is that screening process? A check of LUX motor carrier license number on the U.S. Department of Transportation Web site indicates the company does not appear to have a valid license.

LUX now seems out of industry. San Jacinto the doors of their offices are closed and the windows papered.

Daily Deals voice said they do their best to vet any deal. "We have many offers and 99 percentof them are done really well," said Beth Sestanovich, group publisher of the LA Weekly and Weekly Orange.

How can you protect yourself? Contact the company to make sure they honor the Web deal. If you do not get on the phone, how to collect your voucher?

Yelp.com for reviews and check. I know some Vegas travelers who want them to do.
