Budget Travel is always advisable to experience attractions such as the locals do. It includes visiting the "Times Square as the local," exploring the cities like New Orleans, such as local, and even drinking beer, such as the local U.S. cities and drinking liquor like a local all over the world. And, of course, a long series, "Eat like a local" stories, we are keen to support the concept of dining where the local eat.
But the official American Express's Get Forex blog, Matt Gross – former New York Times Frugal Traveler columnist, who had a lot of fans here in BT – argues that the requirement for local advice is often a bad move. He says:
"Locals are just as likely as anyone else has bad food tastes, bad taste in clothes, and delusional ideas to places they live in What's more, they do not necessarily understand what you, the visitor in his hometown, you really want to get away from your experiences. While I was in Ireland last year, I asked the local – hotel clerks to random strangers on the street – where to get some interesting Irish cheeses I knew were there. And they keep sending me to the local Tesco, the British supermarket chain. "
What is your take? When you're traveling, you ask the local tips on where to eat, to shop or hang out?
And most importantly, not advice you've collected from the local general good or bad?
