Sick in Mexico: Is the resort to compensate?
Q: My partner and I recently returned from a six-day vacation at Barcelo Puerto Vallarta in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. While we were there, many of the guests were amazed by serious illness. We started hearing about it shortly after our arrival, and within two days, we were both very sick and vomiting, diarrhea and fever.

Over the last four days of our trip, we could hardly eat or drink and would not dare take a chance to leave the resort for any excursion.
Judging by the large number of complaints posted on the Internet, many other guests were also affected. Some even required hospitalization.
Because our annual vacation was ruined this outbreak, we would like to be reimbursed or offered a certain level of incentive for future travel to the other property Barcelo. We wrote to the hotel, but never heard back. Can you help us? – Daniel Vosburgh, Chicago
: Barcelo should have answered your complaint, explaining what went wrong at his property in Puerto Vallarta, while you were there, and offers an apology, at least.
It is important to understand that this hotel is all-inclusive resort, which means that it is designed to be a place you never have to leave. Every dish, every drink, every snack are included in the price. So when there is a mysterious disease outbreak, it could potentially affect many of the guests.
I contacted the Barcelo on your behalf. A representative called you and offered you a free week's stay at the Barcelo Puerto Vallarta.
