Travel tax: thank you for coming, now pay!

Taxes trip – can not live with 'em, can not miss' em.
This is the result of a report published by Global Business Travel Association (GBTA) that shows that travelers to the top 50 destination cities in the pay of the United States an average of 56 percent beyond the general sales tax.
This additional cost comes from a series of taxes and surcharges pegged specifically for lodging, car rentals and other travel services, which, according to GBTA, makes them discriminatory.
"And 'shifting the tax burden from the general population, people who are dining at restaurants, staying in hotels or rental cars," said Joe Bates, director of research for the Foundation GBTA. "It 'an imperfect way of levying a tax and is often targeted toward travelers."
As part of the report, GBTA general respect of taxes and sales taxes combined on lodging, car rental and meals. On the basis of U.S. dollars, the city that imposes higher taxes on travelers this year are discriminatory:
Specific destinations aside, the issue becomes even more controversial when the revenue generated is used, not for travel-related services, but for projects that most travelers do not use.
"We had a myriad of local taxes, city and state located on the car rental sector to meet the budget shortfalls and pay for the athletic stadiums and sports arenas," said Bob Barton, president of the American Car Rental Association, which has proposed federal legislation to prohibit such taxes on car hire in the future.
"They are taxing the income that consumers do not necessarily have a voice or a vote," said Barton. "I liken it to the old adage of no taxation without representation."
